End Watchers (Horror)

by Sombrius

With End Watchers installed, tall black entities appear at a distance, standing still or drifting while they watch the player.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

End Watchers adds one horror entity to the End, a tall black figure that watches the player from afar and moves when the player is not looking. Several variants exist, with a standing one, a crouching one and a posing one, and they behave in much the same way. Now and then they play distorted, quiet, low-pitched voices that say things like hey or see behind, which adds ambience to the dimension.

Rarely, a watcher turns aggressive. When the player gets close to one of these, it lifts the player off the ground and a jumpscare plays, after which the watcher goes away. The entities cannot harm the player, so the mod adds a small amount of horror without combat. The mod does not add dwellers or anything similar, and it is a dimension-specific horror mod. End Watchers runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Geckolib is required, and the mod is released under the MIT License as open source. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.20.1, 1.20.6 and 1.21.1.

Key features

  1. Watching entities

Tall black entities stand and observe the player from a distance, moving around while the player is not looking.

  2. Three variants

Standing, crouching and posing variants are available, each doing much the same thing in a different pose.

  3. Distorted voices

The entities sometimes play quiet, distorted, low-pitched voices that add to the ambience of the End.

  4. Jumpscare encounters

Rarely, a watcher becomes aggressive, lifts the player off the ground and plays a jumpscare before leaving.
