Nice Keep Inventory
Players who want their items to survive death can use Nice Keep Inventory, a server mod that controls what a player keeps, loses or recovers when they die.
What it does
Nice Keep Inventory is a configurable keep inventory system. Instead of an all-or-nothing rule, server owners choose how much a player keeps on death, including partial item loss, player heads, experience loss and equipment damage. Dropped items are stored safely in the last safe spot the player stood before dying, and a graves system can hold them until the player returns. Custom enchantments tie protection to specific gear, and an in-game config menu lets operators change these options while the server runs.
The mod is server-side in function: only the server needs it, and clients may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with a data pack version also available for server platforms. Builds cover 1.21.4 – 26.3 across 13 release versions, and the latest file for every loader is 4.0-mod for 26.3, dated 2026-10-03. The project is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, and public source code and a wiki are linked from the listing.
Installation needs no dependencies. Single-player worlds can run the mod as well, with versions auto-converted where needed.
Key features
Partial item loss
Death can remove only part of a player's items, with the share set in the configuration.
Death penalties
Experience loss, equipment damage and a player head drop can each be adjusted on death.
Safekeep and Deathlock
Safekeep keeps items at a cost in durability, while Deathlock limits protection to loot items, and Gravehold keeps the last items.
Player graves
Dropped items are placed in a grave at the last safe spot, and the data pack adds three new enchantments for further control.
