Nether Items Overhaul

by e-splat

Nether Items Overhaul makes some Nether materials useful for crafting, adding new ores, tools, weapons and armor sets to the Nether.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1 – 1.21.4

What it does

The mod adds new ores, tools, weapons and armor sets built from Nether materials. Several of them use Wither Soulsinite Ingots, and the crafting recipes of the new items follow the vanilla pattern, except that raw quartz and the Soulsinite ingot take the place of some vanilla inputs. Soul Sand is also crafted into a new form from quartz ingots, gold ingots and soul sand.

Obtaining the new items is deliberately hard. One recipe needs a Wither Skeleton skull together with gold ingots, and diamonds are used in others. Tools in the Netherite line cannot be crafted directly; they have to be made at a smithing table, and only Netherite tools can take the Netherite Upgrade. Diamond-based items trade power for durability, so the choice between them is a matter of play style.

Installation needs nothing beyond the mod itself, since no other mod is listed as a requirement. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, with Forge builds for 1.20.1 and NeoForge builds for 1.21.4. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. The code is released under the MIT License, but the project is not open source.

  5. Smithing-based Netherite tools

Netherite tools are made at a smithing table and upgraded with the Netherite Upgrade, which only applies to Netherite tools.

Questions

Which loader should Nether Items Overhaul use?

Files exist for Forge and NeoForge. Forge has a build for 1.20.1 and NeoForge a build for 1.21.4, so the loader choice depends on the game version.

Does the server need Nether Items Overhaul?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Why can't Netherite tools be crafted directly?

They have to be made at a smithing table, and the Netherite Upgrade is the only way to upgrade Netherite tools.
