Natural Motion Blur
by Pasi
Natural Motion Blur blends consecutive frames to imitate the motion blur of human vision, which softens stroboscopic effects and makes movement look smoother on screen.
What it does
The mod runs on the client only, so a player installs it and a server does not need it. It requires Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) on Fabric. Builds are published for 1.19.4 – 26.3 with 22 release versions, and the latest Fabric file is 1.4.5 for 26.3, released 2026-09-28.
Blur strength can be adjusted, and the author recommends keeping the default value of 1. The blur amount can also scale with the frame rate and the display refresh rate, so the effect stays consistent when the game runs at different speeds. Settings open from a config GUI, reachable through commands listed on the project page, and the same instructions appear in the in-game GUI.
The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public. The mod was made with help from IMS, What42Pizza and Romain H., and it was first published on 2024-06-13.
Key features
Refresh rate scaling
Blur strength adapts to the frame rate and the display refresh rate, so the look holds across different performance levels.
Adjustable blur strength
A strength setting controls how heavy the blur appears, with a default value of 1 recommended by the author.
Several blur methods
The mod offers multiple blending methods, including the velocity based default, frame blending and hybrid blending.
Accumulation modes
Accumulation max and accumulation mix are available as additional ways to combine frames into the blurred image.

Use cases
Smoother camera movement
Players who turn the camera quickly or run through fields can use the blur to reduce the flicker that stroboscopic effects cause.
Tuning the effect
Players who want a stronger or softer look can change the strength and pick another blending method in the config GUI.
Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want a motion blur effect that reacts to frame rate. Installing it only on the client is enough, and servers need nothing from the mod.
How it compares
Cubing's Motion Blur is client-side only, released under the MIT License and published for 1.21.10 – 1.21.11 on Fabric. Natural Motion Blur covers a much wider set of versions and is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Blurring is also client-side only and open source, but under the Apache License 2.0 and only for 1.21.11.
