Mortar (and Pastels)
by Apollo
Mortar and Pastels adds blocks and dye colors that fill gaps in vanilla Minecraft, from chiseled bricks to new pastel dyes.
What it does
Mortar adds a light set of building blocks that covers several holes left in vanilla block collections. Most of its new chiseled bricks and glazed terracottas come in base designs modeled on the older glazed terracottas, and a set of stone brick variants covers Andesite, Calcite, Diorite and Granite. Brick blocks without chiseled variants gain them, and Prismarine, Red Nether, End Stone and other brick sets are included where a precedent already exists.
Mortar Pastels introduces eight new dye colors that bring the vanilla total to 24. The colors are integrated into concrete, terracotta, banners, bundles and the other dyeable blocks and items, and recipes were altered so the new dyes craft like the vanilla ones. Blue Amaranth and Snapdragon flowers are added as dye sources, and the mod is open source under the MIT License.
Mortar requires Fabric API and Lithostitched, and the Crazy Painting / Mortar Compatibility mod depends on it. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Fabric only, across 24 release versions 1.19.2 – 26.2, and the latest file is 3.1.4-fabric-26.2 for 26.2, published on 2026-07-12.
Key features
Chiseled and glazed variants
Most new chiseled bricks and glazed terracottas use designs from the older glazed terracotta set, with some dye variants added.
Eight new dye colors
Eight dye colors fill gaps in the vanilla palette, and each one works in concrete, terracotta, banners and bundles.
Stone brick sets
Andesite, Calcite, Diorite and Granite gain brick sets, and Calcite also gets a new polished set.
Missing stairs, slabs and walls
Stair, slab and wall versions that were absent for existing blocks now appear, among them Smooth Stone, Quartz and Brick.
Alternate stone types
Tuff and its variants receive the same treatment as the other stone types, with a full set of decorative blocks.
