MoreVanillaTools

by MelanX

MoreVanillaTools gives the vanilla tool set extra tools made from materials such as obsidian, redstone, nether quartz and paper, each mined from its own ore.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverApache License 2.0Open source1.14.4 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod adds tools built from materials the base game already has, and the new pickaxes are the main focus: a pickaxe made from a given material raises the chance of extra drops from the matching ore. Obsidian is the one material that also increases mining speed. Several of the tools trade durability or speed for their bonus, so picking one depends on what a player is mining.

Installation needs LibX. Farmer's Delight, Just Enough Items (JEI) and MoreVanillaLib are optional: MoreVanillaLib adds a few features and a config for the drop chances, and JEI integration lets the new recipes appear in the item viewer. The code is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and the mod runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Forge and NeoForge builds cover 1.14.4 – 1.21.1, with 1.20.1-6.0.0 for 1.20.1 as the last Forge file and 21.1.3 for 1.21.1 as the latest NeoForge file.

Key features

  1. Tools from vanilla materials

Pickaxes and other tools are crafted from materials the base game already provides, so no extra resource has to be found first.

  2. Drop bonus per ore

A pickaxe made from a given material gives a higher chance of extra drops from the ore it matches, with the chance set in the MoreVanillaLib config.

  3. Obsidian mining speed

Obsidian is the only material whose tools also increase mining speed, which matters when breaking hard blocks.

  4. Recipes in JEI

With Just Enough Items installed, the crafting recipes for the new tools show up in its item viewer.
