Default World Type

by MelanX

With Default World Type, the world type preselected on the Create World screen can be set to a chosen value, so new worlds start on it without a manual change.

ForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.14 – 26.3

What it does

Default World Type changes which world type is selected by default when a player opens the Create World screen. Setting it in the client config to a value such as skyblockbuilder:skyblock means a new world starts on that type without the player touching the world type option, which lowers the chance of accidentally generating the wrong world.

Only the player's game needs the mod, since it is limited to the client. For servers, the right server.properties file should be supplied instead, or Default Server Properties can handle it. Once a player enters the Create New World screen, the mod writes a file listing the allowed config values.

Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across 33 release versions, 1.14 – 26.3, with 1.20.1-4.0.5 for 1.20.1 as the latest Forge file and 26.3.0 for 26.3 as the latest NeoForge file. The code is under the Apache License 2.0, and it is open source.

Key features

  1. Preselected world type

The world type chosen in the client config is selected automatically whenever the Create World screen opens.

  2. Custom world type values

Any world type identifier, including modded ones, can be entered as the default value in the client config.

  3. Allowed values file

A file listing the allowed config values is generated the first time the Create New World screen is opened.

Use cases

Modpack defaults

Modpack creators can make a pack's custom world type the default, so players do not have to pick it on each new world.

Skyblock packs

A pack that uses Skyblock Builder can set skyblockbuilder:skyblock as the preselected type for new worlds.

Who it’s for: Modpack creators are the main audience. Players who create worlds on a pack that uses a non-default world type also benefit from the preselected setting.

Where is the default world type set?

The value is set in the client config, and a file with the allowed config values is generated once the Create New World screen has been opened.
