Melody
by Keksuccino
Melody is an OpenAL-based audio library that Keksuccino's mods use to play background music outside the game's own sound engine.
What it does
On its own Melody does nothing. Mods that depend on it can play music through OpenAL separately from the game's sound manager, loading audio files asynchronously from many sources, including web addresses. OGG and WAV files are supported out of the box, and developers can extend it to other formats.
It was made for music in menus or in the world, which is why FancyMenu, Drippy Loading Screen, SpiffyHUD, Reimagined Intro and EmoteSounds require it. Fabric API is a requirement on Fabric. Melody is open source under the MIT License; Fabric and NeoForge builds reach 26.3, while Forge stops at 1.21.8.
Key features
Separate audio channel
Music plays through OpenAL apart from the game's sound engine, so it does not compete with game sounds.
Async loading
Audio files load in the background from local or web sources without freezing the game.
OGG and WAV
Both formats work by default, and the loader can be extended for other file types.
