Auudio

by Keksuccino

Auudio is a library for playing background sound in menus and worlds, and other mods call it to control their audio.

What it does

Other mods use Auudio as a building block. It does nothing on its own, since it provides the audio functions that a dependent mod calls. Its design keeps the interface small while still exposing a range of playback controls.

Sounds can be loaded without registering sound assets first. Files may come from a path on the client system or from a web address. Each sound has its own volume and playback state, so one can be started, stopped, paused or resumed without touching the others. Fabric API is required on Fabric. The environment is client-side only, so servers do not need the mod, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, which makes the project open source. Builds cover 1.16.2 – 1.20.4 on Fabric and Forge.

Key features

  1. No asset registration

Sounds can be played without registering sound assets in advance, which keeps setup short for dependent mods.

  2. External sound sources

Audio can be read from a file path on the client or from a web URL, so sounds need not be bundled.

  3. Per-sound volume

Each sound's volume can be changed on its own, without altering the volume of the whole sound channel.

  4. Individual playback control

Every sound can be started, stopped, paused or resumed separately, without affecting other playing sounds.

Layered world audio

Separate ambient sounds can be mixed at their own volumes and paused independently during a world session.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want a ready sound layer for menus and worlds, and players who install a mod that lists Auudio as a requirement.

Questions

Does Auudio need Fabric API?

Yes, on Fabric. Fabric API is listed as a required dependency for that loader, and Forge builds do not need it.

Does Auudio have to be installed on servers?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Which mods depend on Auudio?

Audio Extension for FancyMenu v2 requires it. Other dependent mods can be installed in the same way.
