magnet-hopper

by kestalkayden

Magnet-hopper gives a hopper a 3D pull radius, so it collects dropped items from the area around it before depositing them into the container below.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source26.1 – 26.3

What it does

The magnet variant of the hopper pulls dropped items from a three-dimensional radius and stores them in a 5-slot internal inventory, then pushes them into the container below on the standard 8-tick cadence. It also pulls from the container above, so it can act as a full item conveyor. A magnet toggle switches the pull off, leaving the block behaving as a normal hopper. Redstone signals pause all of its activity, the way a vanilla hopper behaves. It is a strict superset of the regular hopper, so existing behavior is kept. A single block is enough to clear items from a mob farm that would otherwise let them despawn.

The 5-slot storage can be filtered with a whitelist or blacklist. Clicking a filter slot with an item sets a ghost copy without consuming the item, and clicking with an empty hand clears the slot. The whitelist and blacklist mode can be toggled in the interface, and the filter slots are exposed as configuration options. Pipe compatibility is provided by exposing the 5-slot storage through Fabric ItemStorage.SIDED on Fabric and the NeoForge item-handler capability on NeoForge. It requires Fabric API on Fabric and the 0.18.4 loader or newer. Files exist for 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, with 0.3.0 for 26.3 as the latest build on both loaders. Snapshot builds are published.

Key features

  1. Three-dimensional magnet pull

Dropped items inside a 3D radius are pulled into the block's internal storage.

  2. Magnet toggle

A button in the interface turns the pull off, leaving the block behaving as a normal hopper.

  3. Five-slot filter

A whitelist or blacklist filter applies to the five storage slots, with ghost items that are not consumed.

  4. Redstone control

A redstone signal pauses the hopper, matching the vanilla hopper convention.

Copper Hopper is an MIT-licensed open source option for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.19 – 26.3, running on client and server. Filtered Hopper is open source under the MIT License, but it is Fabric only, for 26.2, and needs only the server. Magnet-hopper supports both loaders, 26.1 – 26.3, and runs on client and server.

Questions

Does Magnet-hopper need Fabric API?

Yes, on Fabric it requires Fabric API. On NeoForge, the NeoForge build is used instead.

Do both sides need Magnet-hopper installed?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Can the magnet pull be turned off?

Yes. The magnet toggle in the interface disables the pull, and the block then acts as a normal hopper.

What the author says

A hopper variant that pulls dropped items in a 3D radius before depositing them into the container below. Solves the universal "items despawn around my mob farm" pain in one dedicated block.
