LCon - Local Console Access
by ZigTheHedge
LCon, a Forge mod by ZigTheHedge, opens a WebSocket server in Minecraft so that commands can be sent to the game and answers received back.
What it does
LCon adds a WebSocket server to the game that accepts commands from an external client and returns answers, in a way similar to RCon. A WebSocket client connects to the server, which sends back information about the connection once it succeeds. Every reply carries a status code prefix, and the status codes resemble regular HTTP status codes. A message sent without a valid prefix returns an error with the matching status.
The mod is client-side only, so it is installed on the player's own game and servers do not need it. By default it creates a configuration file with settings for enabling the mod and the listening port, which is 8115. Messages printed in the Minecraft chat are echoed to every connected WebSocket client, which can parse them or ignore them. LCon is published for Forge only, for 1.19.2 and 1.20.1, and is released under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source.

Use cases

Outside software can receive everything printed to chat through the echo to connected clients.
Who it’s for: Players and developers who want to drive the game from an external WebSocket client, and who are comfortable choosing a port and writing their own client program.
How it compares
Webstone is a Forge server-side mod for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, open source under the MIT License, so it is the other end of the setup, while LCon runs on the client. Console Filter works on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.2 and can run on a client or server, and it is not open source, released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license. G and L Chat needs both sides and is also not open source, under the BSD 2-Clause License.
