What it does

Lava Particles | More, a client-side mod from stepqq, adds bubbling lava, volcanic geysers and splash effects to lava in both the Overworld and the Nether. Players can adjust every part of the effects from the in-game configuration menu.

Surface bubbles, deep magma bubbles and landing droplets are separate effect groups. Droplets that land on blocks slide around, cool down, change color from bright red to dark basalt and then disappear. Droplets that hit water fizz and create steam, and an optional damage setting lets them deal minor fire damage with a cooldown that servers and players can customize. Ambient sounds accompany eruptions with a deep, low volcanic rumble, and walking through lava produces dense columns of smoke and sparks with a constant sizzle.

The mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.21.1, and its files also cover 1.20.1. Only the client needs it, so players can add the effects to any server without the server running the mod.

Key features

  1. Magma geysers

Large lava pools erupt with rising columns, heat-distortion waves and bubbles that throw hot droplets into the air.

  2. Surface and deep bubbles

On the lava surface, small pops of fizzing happen frequently, while big magma bubbles climb slowly up from deep areas and pop at the top.

  3. Droplets and water interaction

Falling magma drops glow, slide across blocks and cool to basalt, and drops that land in water fizz and produce rising steam.

  4. Optional droplet damage

Magma drops can deal minor fire damage of half a heart to players, and the cooldown between hits can be customized.
