The mod is a server-side gesture: rapidly crouching close to another player spawns heart particles over the sneaking player. Default settings also let the same gesture trigger hearts over vanilla friendly mobs such as villagers, cows and wolves, while the heart appears above the mob's head rather than the player's. A server owner can turn that off or replace the target list with entity type IDs and tags, and modded mobs need extra integration to be included.

Only the server needs KissMod, so players join without installing anything. It requires Fabric API. The server config file is kissmod-server.toml on NeoForge and Quilt, with an older kissmod.json used on Fabric; configs from KissMod v1 are imported once, existing custom values are never overwritten, and new fields are filled with defaults. Two permissions, kissmod.command and kissmod.trigger, are granted to all players by default and can be overridden with a permissions mod. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with a public source code repository and issue tracker, and builds cover 1.19 – 26.3 for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt.
