IronRust
by sopze
IronRust lets exposed iron blocks oxidize over time, with variants for Exposed, Weathered and Oxidized states that players can slow down with a coating.
What it does
Iron blocks in the world gradually rust through oxidation, and nearby water speeds up the process. Major iron blocks such as doors, trapdoors, bars, chains and grates each come in Exposed, Weathered and Oxidized variants, and coated forms of iron blocks follow the same stages. A coated, waxed state stops further change, and a Honeycomb item applies the coating through a crafting recipe.
IronRust requires Fabric API on Fabric and runs on the client and the server, so both need it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11, with 1.0.4-f as the latest file, released under the MIT License and open source. A separate removal procedure, using the IronRust-Wipe file, converts the blocks back to vanilla IDs before the mod is uninstalled.
Key features
Iron oxidation
Iron blocks change through Exposed, Weathered and Oxidized stages, and nearby water affects how quickly that happens.
Iron block variants
Doors, trapdoors, bars, chains, grates and coated iron blocks each have oxidized variants.
Waxed coating
A Honeycomb item and a crafting recipe apply a coating that leaves iron in a waxed state.
Safe uninstall
The IronRust-Wipe file converts IronRust blocks, items and inventory contents back to vanilla when the mod is removed.

Use cases
Multiplayer worlds
The mod works in multiplayer, and if a player connects to a server without it, the mod disables itself on that client.
Who it’s for: Builders who want weathered iron decoration in survival or creative worlds, and server owners who plan to remove the mod later can use the wipe procedure to restore vanilla blocks.
How it compares
Oxide runs on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1 and is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so it covers a different version. Rusted is open source under the MIT License and spans 1.20.1 – 26.2 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, a wider range than IronRust. Iron Grates is for Fabric only, is limited to 1.21, and is not open source.

What the author says
Multiplayer implementation is done so it also works in Multiplayer games as long as both Client+Server have the mod installed. On the other hand, the Mod will be automatically self-disabled if you connect to a server that doesn't have the mod installed To use the uninstaller, remove IronRust mod from your mods folder…
