Rusted
by ripiters
Rusted adds a rust stage system to the iron blocks of vanilla Minecraft, so iron structures corrode over time in the world.
What it does
Iron blocks gain four rust stages that progress naturally. Exposure to weather and water contact speeds up corrosion, and players can stop it by applying a honeycomb wax to an oxidized block with an axe. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with full attribution and licensing information in a CREDITS.txt file included with each mod file.
Rusted runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across three game versions: 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 26.2, with 1.2.2 as the latest file for each loader. Create is an optional dependency, and its Industrial Iron blocks and window panes are supported. Recipe viewers EMI, JEI and REI display the oxidation cycles and interaction outcomes.
Key features
Four rust stages
Iron blocks in their structural variants move through four distinct rust stages as they weather.
Weather acceleration
Rain and water contact increase the rate at which iron blocks corrode.
Wax protection
Honeycomb applied with an axe locks a block in its current oxidation state.
Configurable mechanics
Oxidation behavior can be adjusted through configuration, and the mod supports multiple languages.

Use cases
Aging iron builds
Iron structures in a survival world slowly change appearance, so a base shows its age over time.
Create industrial bases
Create's Industrial Iron blocks and window panes take part in the same corrosion cycle.
Who it’s for: Builders who want iron structures to weather and survival players who keep a long-running world. Server owners can tune the corrosion settings for their own worlds.
How it compares
IronRust is open source under the MIT License, published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge with files for 1.21.9 – 1.21.11, and it runs on client and server as Rusted does. Humid Oxidation is NeoForge only for 1.21.1 and uses the BSD 2-Clause License, which is not open source. Rapid Oxidation is server-side only, covers 1.17.1 – 1.21.8, and is under All rights reserved.
