Players who need a specific head for a build can search a server-side database through Head Index, which is a Fabric and Quilt mod for 1.16.5 – 26.3.
What it does
Head Index is a head database for servers. Once installed, operators open a head menu and search heads with a search button in a GUI, then pick one from a custom heads screen. The lookup data comes from Minecraft Heads, and the mod is built on Fabric API, which must be installed next to it on both Fabric and Quilt.
The mod is server-side only, so players join a server that runs it without installing anything. Access is limited by default to operators at permission level 2, and the level can be changed in the config file. A free license key entered in that file is needed before use. Head Index works alongside LuckPerms, PlayerRoles and other Fabric permission managers, and can also be used without one by lowering the default permission level.
Builds exist for 31 release versions, with snapshot builds published as well. The latest files, 1.2.2 for 26.3, were published on 2026-09-26, and the code is open source under the MIT License.
