Gunpowder Armory, a Forge equipment mod for 1.20.1, adds thirteen historical firearms, from flintlocks and matchlocks to wheellocks and repeating guns, that load in different ways.

What it does

Most of the guns follow the same loading routine: powder and a bullet are rammed down the barrel, and the player uses the offhand to switch quickly between items. Some models skip this and use a magazine system instead, so each gun asks for its own handling. The mod includes in-game guidebooks that describe how each weapon is loaded and used.

Gunpowder Armory requires Geckolib. Because the mod uses only Geckolib as a dependency, metal materials are drawn from the ingots tag, so steel and lead from other mods can be used when they follow the forge:ingots tag convention. Files are built for Forge and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Thirteen historical guns

The mod adds thirteen firearms of the period, including flintlock, matchlock and wheellock designs.

  2. Varied loading systems

Each gun is loaded in its own way, with some using offhand items and others a magazine rather than a ramrod.

  3. In-game guidebooks

Guidebooks inside the game describe how each weapon is loaded, aimed and maintained.

  4. Matchlocks and wheellocks compared

Matchlocks are the most prone to failure, while wheellocks rarely misfire and are the most dependable of the early designs.

Early-game progression

Who it’s for: Players who want firearms from the flintlock era with distinct handling, and modpack authors looking for a historical weapon set that needs Geckolib.

What the author says

Gunpowder Armory adds 13 unique old guns, such as flintlock guns, but also matchlock, wheellock and even a few repeating guns! All of these use a unique loading process that uses your offhand, and each one is different from another in some way, shape or form. That's pretty cool! A: This information is in the ingame…
