Granular Hunger
by Tetro48
Granular Hunger replaces the usual food bar with a finer hunger system, where a full bar holds 60 units and food is counted in pips.
What it does
The mod reworks how hunger works, porting some ideas from BTW's Hardcore Hunger. A full hunger bar holds 60 units, and a shank of meat restores 6 of them. Food items carry a hunger pips component that supplements the vanilla food component, so each item defines how many units it gives and how it interacts with the rest of the system. The base cost of hunger is set by a player attribute, and its base value is 1.
Natural regeneration is slowed down: a player has to sit above 4 shanks, which is 24 hunger units, before it begins. On the first difficulty setting, regeneration restores half a heart every 12 seconds, while Normal and Hard slow it to every 20 seconds. Under the Hunger effect, food cannot be eaten, with cake as the exception. Saturation and fat do not spawn with any food. A higher cost value and a lower exhaustion value are required to drain hunger pips at the intended pace.
Granular Hunger is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin are required, and YetAnotherConfigLib is bundled inside the mod. The code is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and Fabric is the only loader, with files for 1.21.1, 1.21.11 and 26.2.
Key features
Granular hunger bar
A full bar holds 60 units, and each food item defines how many units it restores.
Shank-based food values
One shank of meat restores 6 units, so smaller foods fill part of the bar.
Reworked natural regeneration
Regeneration starts only above 4 shanks, which is 24 units, and its pace depends on difficulty.
Hunger effect restriction
Under the Hunger effect a player cannot eat, except cake.

What the author says
This mod requires that client and server both have it installed in order for it to work, otherwise weird behavior will occur.
