Global Block Hardness
by Darkorg69
Global Block Hardness changes how long every block takes to break, through a single multiplier that the world or server owner sets in a config file.
What it does
The mod applies one multiplier to the hardness of all blocks, so breaking blocks can be made easier or harder across the whole game. The value is read from globalblockhardness.cfg in the config folder inside the game directory for single-player and clients, and from globalblockhardness-server.toml in the serverconfig folder inside the world folder for servers. A game restart is needed before changes take effect.
Only Forge is supported, with files for 1.10.2 – 1.19.4 and 1.0.0 as the latest file for 1.19.4. The server and every player need the mod installed. Global Block Hardness is open source under the MIT License, with public source code and an issue tracker.
Key features
Global break speed multiplier
One multiplier value changes how fast every block breaks, from slower to faster, without editing individual blocks.
Client and server config files
Separate config files control the game directory setting and the per-world server setting, so each side can be tuned.
Restart-based updates
Changes to the multiplier take effect after the game or world is restarted, as the config is read at load time.
Modpack friendly
The mod can be included in modpacks, with the same config options available in each pack.

Use cases
Easier survival pace
A server owner can lower block hardness so players spend less time breaking blocks while building.
Slower block breaking
Raising the multiplier makes mining take longer, which some players use to slow resource gathering.
Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack authors who want a single setting that changes block break times across the game. Players on a server with the mod need it installed as well.
How it compares
Global GameRules is server-side only, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and open source. It covers Forge files for 1.18.2 – 1.20.1, so it reaches versions Global Block Hardness does not. BlockOverride is also server-side only and open source under the MIT License, but it has a Forge file for 1.12.2 alone. TeleportCraft is server-side only, published for 1.16.5 – 1.21, and is not open source.
