Better Materials
by Darkorg69
Better Materials changes how copper, flint, charcoal, emerald and amethyst work in Forge worlds, adding gear, storage blocks and tuned armor stats.
What it does
Better Materials expands the vanilla game so that common materials become more useful and more realistic in play. Copper shears match the regular shears in function but wear out faster, and the mod adds copper armor, emerald armor and amethyst armor with durability and protection values set against iron and leather. Players can build with flint and charcoal too, since each has a block that stores the material more conveniently.
The mod runs on Forge and needs both the server and every player to have it installed, so the environment is client and server. Its files target the game versions 1.16.5, 1.18, 1.18.1, 1.18.2 and 1.19.2, and the 1.16.5 build leaves out the copper and amethyst gear because those materials are not present in that version. The latest file is 1.0.0 for 1.19.2, published on 2024-03-16, the same day the mod was first released.
The code is released under the MIT License and is open source, with a public source repository and issue tracker linked from the project. Worlds that already use the mod keep the same materials, and the armor values replace the vanilla numbers only for the pieces the mod adds.
Key features
Copper shears
Copper shears work like the regular shears but lose durability faster, so they suit short-term use.
Flint and charcoal storage
Blocks store flint and charcoal together, and charcoal stored this way still works as fuel.
Copper armor
A full set of copper armor adds a tier between leather and iron, with less durability than iron.
Emerald armor
Emerald armor pieces are added with their own durability and protection values.
Amethyst armor
Amethyst armor offers more protection than iron, with durability tuned to match its place in the progression.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want more reason to collect vanilla materials, and server owners who run Forge worlds where those materials should matter more.
