Useful Materials
Useful Materials turns common ores, gems and wood types into new tools, armor and blocks, giving items that vanilla leaves mostly decorative a crafting purpose.
What it does
Players who gather Ruby, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, Copper, Quartz, Redstone, Coal, Charcoal and Leather can craft tools and armor sets from them, along with blocks for building. The mod also adds a rare new ore, and gives nine wood types their own sets of tools and armor, covering the common overworld woods as well as the Nether and mangrove varieties.
The additions are aimed at survival play and builders who want more gear variety. The mod is built for Forge and the files target Minecraft 1.19.2 only, so it does not extend older or newer versions. It runs on the client and the server together, so the server and every player need it. The license is All rights reserved, and the code is not open source.
Key features
Gem and metal tools
Ruby, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli and Copper can be crafted into tools and armor sets, so these materials gain a use beyond trading or decoration.
Coal and Charcoal gear
Coal and Charcoal produce their own tools and armor, adding a fuel-based option to the early crafting tiers.
Wood type sets
Nine wood types each get tools, armor and blocks, so a build can match its wood across many items.
New rare ore
A new ore is added to the world, providing a source for crafting materials beyond the existing ores.

Use cases
Survival progression
Players can use materials they would otherwise store, such as Lapis Lazuli or Redstone, to craft gear during a survival run.
Building variety
Builders get blocks and decorative items in more wood types and materials, which helps larger projects avoid repetition.
Who it’s for: Players who want more crafting options in survival, and builders who want extra gear and block variety. Server owners can add it to a Forge 1.19.2 server, which needs the mod on both the server and every player's client.
How it compares

Better Materials is also Forge and open source under the MIT License, for 1.16.5 – 1.19.2, which overlaps this version range. Rubies is Forge for 1.20.1 under All rights reserved and is limited to the Ruby gem.
