Game Rules
by Roundaround
Game Rules lets server owners and players in existing worlds change the game rules that vanilla Minecraft exposes, after a world is already created.
What it does
The mod edits game rules in worlds that were already generated, so a rule chosen at world creation can be changed later. On multiplayer servers, editing rules through the mod requires operator permissions. Fabric API is required on every loader the mod supports, and the mod runs on client and server, so both sides need it.
Hardcore worlds get an extra restriction: a rule can only be changed once. A balancing mechanism lets long-running hardcore worlds adjust settings such as vine spreading, so a world that has run for years is not locked forever. The mod records the exact date and time each rule was changed, which lets other people in the world see who changed what and hold players accountable.
The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 17 release versions, 1.21 – 26.3. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.
Key features
Edit rules in existing worlds
Game rules can be changed after a world has been created, instead of being fixed at creation time.
Hardcore balancing
Hardcore worlds allow a rule to be changed only once, with a balancing path for long-running worlds.
Change timestamps
Each rule change is recorded with its exact date and time, so the history of a world can be checked.
Rules simplified over time
Earlier versions used several variants, some of which made rules immutable. Those variants were removed, so every rule is editable.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners who run multiplayer worlds and players who want to adjust rules in a world after it was created, including hardcore players who need a controlled way to change them.
How it compares
Attribute Base Modifier is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20 – 1.21.8, so it changes attributes rather than game rules. Dimension and Elytra Control is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for NeoForge 1.21.1 alone. Proper Rules List for Servers is server required with client optional, under All rights reserved, and covers 1.16 – 1.21.11 on all four loaders, so it is a rules list rather than a rule editor.
