Fullbright [Permanent Night Vision]

by o-Peepo

Fullbright lets a server toggle permanent night vision for every player, and it also works in singleplayer worlds.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.19.4 – 26.3

What it does

Each player can switch the effect on or off with the command /trigger ToggleFullBright at any time. The setting is applied through a data pack, so the mod is installed as a zipped file in the data packs folder of the world, and then the world is restarted or /reload is run.

Server owners can block individual players from using the effect by giving them the FB blacklisted tag, and can stop it from being active by default with a scoreboard value. Night vision potions are affected by the data pack, which makes them redundant because the toggle can be used instead. Removal is done with /function mpfullbright:uninstall, and the data pack must be deleted before a reload.

The server must run the data pack, while a client can leave it out. Fullbright is for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and its files cover 1.19.4 – 26.3 with 1.4+mod for 26.3 as the latest file from 2025-01-01. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Per-player toggle

Every player can switch the night vision effect on or off with a trigger command whenever they want.

  2. Player blacklist

Players with the FB blacklisted tag cannot turn the effect on, which lets owners restrict it.

  3. Default state setting

A scoreboard value decides whether the effect starts enabled, so servers can keep it off until players ask.

  4. Singleplayer support

The same data pack works in a single-player world without any extra setup.

Use cases

Dark survival servers

Server owners who run caves-heavy or night-heavy worlds can give every player visibility without crafting potions.

Map and adventure play

Players who explore dark structures can toggle the effect on demand, instead of relying on torches.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want a toggleable night vision effect for all players, and single-player players who want the same effect in their own world.

How it compares

Full comparison

Simple Night Vision is open source under the MIT License, with a server-side environment and files for 1.13 – 26.3 across all four loaders. Simple Full Bright is also server-side, published for 1.21.9 – 26.3 under All rights reserved, and is not open source. Henny Fullbright is client-side only, so each player installs it themselves, and it is licensed under the MIT License for 1.21 – 1.21.1 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, without open source status.

Questions

Does Fullbright need to be installed on every player's client?

No. The server must run the data pack, while a client may leave it out. Players who join a server running it receive the effect without installing anything.

How can a server stop a player from using the effect?

Give that player the FB blacklisted tag with the command /tag FB blacklisted. Players with the tag cannot turn the effect on.

Does the data pack affect night vision potions?

Yes. The data pack breaks night vision potions, which makes them useless because the toggle can be used instead.
