FoodTweaker

by Mrbysco

FoodTweaker changes the hunger, saturation and edibility values of food items, and is driven by CraftTweaker scripts on Forge for 1.12.2.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2

What it does

Food items get their hunger amount and saturation set through CraftTweaker, the scripting addon this mod depends on. Scripts can also make a food edible at any time and mark a food as meat for the purposes of other mods. A separate set of sanity food entries is added and works alongside the Sanity mod when that mod is installed, and the mod includes compatibility code for it. The CraftTweaker syntax is covered on the CraftTweaker wiki, which the author links for scripts.

The mod runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it for the changed values to match. Displayed values on the food tooltip can be made accurate by installing AppleSkin, which in turn needs AppleCore. The code is open source under the MIT License and files exist for 1.12.2 only, with 1.1.3 as the latest Forge file, published 2022-05-24.

Key features

  1. Hunger amount changes

Scripts set how many hunger points a food restores, letting a pack rebalance food without editing other mods.

  2. Saturation changes

The saturation value of a food item can be replaced, which changes how long hunger stays satisfied after eating.

  3. Always edible foods

A food can be forced to be edible at any time, including when the player is not hungry.

  4. Sanity food entries

Extra food entries are added for the Sanity mod, and the compatibility code is included in this mod.

Use cases

Pack balancing

Modpack authors can adjust the food values of many items at once through CraftTweaker scripts instead of editing each mod.

Showing accurate values

Installing AppleSkin alongside AppleCore lets the tooltip display the values the scripts actually set.

Who it’s for: Modpack authors and server owners who script food values with CraftTweaker on Forge for 1.12.2 and want to rebalance hunger and saturation.

How it compares

Full comparison

LemonSkin is a client-required Forge mod for 1.12.2 under the MIT License, showing food and health information, while FoodTweaker is client and server and changes the food values themselves. Food Craft is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 under All rights reserved, so it does not cover the 1.12.2 files this mod provides.

Questions

Does FoodTweaker need CraftTweaker?

Yes. The food values are set through CraftTweaker scripts, so CraftTweaker must be installed with FoodTweaker on Forge for 1.12.2.

Does the server need FoodTweaker?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Why do the tooltip values look wrong?

The tooltip needs AppleSkin, which requires AppleCore, to display the values set by the scripts. Without them the numbers shown may not match the food's real effect.
