Flooded
by masa
Flooded is a Forge mechanic mod for Minecraft 1.12.2 in which the water level in a world slowly rises, first shown as a proof of concept.
What it does
A rising water level is the mod's core mechanic: the sea gradually covers the land as time passes, and rain can speed the process. The idea was first demonstrated as a proof of concept that flooded an entire world during rainfall. Its author describes the release as an early test with known issues, so it is read as a prototype rather than a finished feature. Flooded runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Builds exist for 1.12.2 only, and the code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, making it open source.
Key features
Gradually rising water
The water level rises over time, so the world slowly floods instead of changing in a single step.
Rain-driven flooding
Rainfall takes part in the rising process, which was the behavior shown in the original proof of concept.
Known issues in the test release
Water updates cause laggy block updates, and custom water blocks do not behave well with boats.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.

What the author says
A (proof of concept) mod that makes the entire world slowly flood while it's raining. I never had time to work on this mod further than the initial proof of concept test release, so it's not that useful in its current state.
