Flint Required
by Athlantes
Flint Required, a Forge and NeoForge equipment mod, adds a flint toolset and supporting items for players who want primitive crafting in the early game.
What it does
The mod introduces flint tool heads and finished flint tools: an axe, hoe, knife, pickaxe and shovel, each with its own model and textures. Shards made from flint, fiber gathered from plants and a brush of a cruder kind feed the new recipes, and the items are meant for early-game use before iron tools are available.
Recipes are simple and follow the crafting style of vanilla survival progression, and the set is small and focused on one flint theme. Installation requires Required: Core. Just Enough Items (JEI) and KubeJS are optional. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Flint tool heads
Flint tool heads are added so that axes, hoes, knives, pickaxes and shovels can be built from flint parts.
Complete flint tools
Each flint tool is finished with its own model and texture, so the set reads as a distinct early tier.
Supporting materials
Flint shards, gathered plant fiber and a simple brush provide the materials that the flint recipes consume.
Early-game crafting
The added items widen the options available before players reach metal tools, without changing the rest of progression.

Use cases
Primitive survival
Players who want a stone-age stage before iron can craft the flint set from gathered materials.
Pack building
Modpack authors who want more primitive crafting depth can add the set to a survival pack.
Who it’s for: The mod suits survival players and server owners who want a flint-focused early tier. It is meant for packs that keep vanilla-style progression and do not need a large list of tools.
How it compares
Immersive Wood is a Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 that is also client and server and is not open source, but it covers wood rather than flint. Create: Useful Flint is published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.20 – 1.21.1 under All rights reserved, and it is not open source. Wooden to Flint Tools is server required with client optional, covers 1.14 – 1.21.8 across four loaders and is licensed under the MIT License.
