Immersive Wood

by DukeZiggo

Immersive Wood changes early-game wood use, replacing crafting-table planks with chopping blocks, unlit campfires and a flint toolset for Forge and NeoForge.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Crafting-table planks are disabled, so wood is processed by hand: logs are set on a Chopping Block and split with an axe to produce planks. Unlit campfires are placed unlit by default and must be lit by hand, and a Primitive Fire Starter ignites fires by holding right-click to rub sticks together. A new flint toolset covers pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword, with flint gravel knapped into axe heads.

The mod overhauls early progression by removing magic crafting, which suits survival playthroughs and modpacks that want more involved starting content. Version 2.0.0 and later target Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, where active development now takes place. The 1.20.1 Forge version remains available with its older feature set. Features such as knapping use a JSON-based custom chopping recipe system, and modpack developers can add their own input and output pairs with KubeJS. Vanilla wooden and stone tools still exist, and the author advises customizing their tiers.

Immersive Wood is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge across seven release versions, and is licensed as All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Chopping Block

Logs are placed on the block and split with an axe, and two matching logs stacked on it turn into planks.

  2. Unlit campfires

Campfires start unlit and cannot be placed as an instant safety source, so fire has to be made first.

  3. Primitive Fire Starter

Holding right-click rubs sticks together to ignite fires, using a tool that is crafted from sticks.

  4. Flint toolset

A complete set of flint pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe and sword is crafted from knapped flint axe heads and sticks.

Questions

Does Immersive Wood need to be on the server?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Can the chopping recipes be changed?

Yes. Modpack developers can add their own input and output pairs with a plain JSON file under kubejs/data/recipe using KubeJS.

What the author says

Version note: Immersive Wood 2.0.0+ is for Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge) and is where active development is happening going forward. The 1.20.1 (Forge) version is still available but is on the older feature set. It does not have features such as Knapping and the new JSON-based custom chopping recipe system. Overhauls…
