Fixed Levels

by neptunecentury

Fixed Levels changes how much experience each level costs, so enchanting at the anvil no longer drains a player's points as fast.

FabricClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.2

What it does

The mod lets a server owner or a single-player player set a flat amount of experience required to reach each level, instead of the vanilla progression. By default the base value is 30 experience per level, and the flat mode can be tuned to any number. When enchanting costs levels rather than raw experience, a single level-1 enchantment spends far less, which suits players who find the vanilla price high.

Curve mode replaces the flat value with a configurable calculation applied to each level up, so the cost can grow or shrink as the player climbs. A maximum limit caps how much experience a single level may require, and curve mode is off by default. Settings can be changed in the Mod Menu screen on a client, or by editing fixed-levels.json5 on a dedicated server, and commands can query and set the options.

The mod is published for Fabric only, across 16 release versions 1.21 – 26.2, under the MIT License, and it is open source. It is client or server optional, so either side can run it, and neither needs it. Mod Menu is an optional dependency for the in-game settings screen, and Cloth Config API is needed when Mod Menu is used to change them.

Questions

Does Fixed Levels need Mod Menu?

No. Mod Menu is optional. It provides a settings screen on the client, and without it the options can still be edited in fixed-levels.json5 or with commands.

Does the server need Fixed Levels for players to join?

No. The client, the server or both can run it, and no side requires it.

How is curve mode different from the flat setting?

With curve mode off, every level costs the same set amount. With curve mode on, a calculation applied to each level up sets the cost, and the maximum limit still applies.

What the author says

Are you annoyed at how much EXP it costs to enchant gear at an anvil? To enchant something that costs 1 level, at level 1, you'll spend a lot less EXP than if you were at level 30. That's because it costs a certain number of levels to enchant, instead of EXP. So, to combat this, I prefer to make all levels require…
