Face Tracker Mod

by Antara89

Face Tracker Mod lets players show a facial expression on their in-game face, with the expression read from a webcam and shared with other players on the server.

FabricClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution 4.01.21.1

What it does

A local companion client reads the player's webcam, estimates the current facial expression and sends a compact result over localhost. A standalone Java desktop client is bundled in the client folder of the build.

Eight expressions are drawn as overlays, each from an 8x8 PNG texture where transparent pixels let the base layer or the original Minecraft skin face show through.

The mod needs Fabric API and a special client to run the webcam tracking, so it is intended for players who set up that tool. It is published for Fabric on 1.21.1 only and is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, which is not open source, though the source code is public.

Key features

  1. Webcam expression tracking

The included client detects the player's expression from a webcam and sends it to the mod while Minecraft runs.

  2. Multiplayer expression sync

Detected expressions are distributed through Fabric networking, so other players on the server see them as well.

  3. Expression overlays

Eight expressions are drawn on the player's face, each made from an 8x8 PNG texture with transparent areas.

  4. Layered face parts

An opt-in parts folder lets mouth, eyes and eyebrows be set separately, with missing default part textures created on first run.

  5. Local HUD preview

An optional face preview in a screen corner can be moved and scaled through its settings.
