colormapper

by hwdgaf

colormapper recolors the fog, sky and water of the world with the foliage tint of the biome the player stands in, and leaves the rest of the scene untouched.

FabricClient-side onlyCustom license26.2

What it does

The mod reads the foliage color of the current biome each frame and tints the fog, sky and water with it, so the haze across the full screen follows the biome as the player moves. Fog stays gray in its distant parts and only softens the borders of the view, while the sun, moon and clouds keep their exact vanilla appearance. Only the fog, sky and water are recolored; no blocks, items or world data are added, and existing saves open unchanged.

Only the client needs the mod, so single-player players and players joining a server install it alone, and a server does not need it. It is published for Fabric 26.2 only, depends on Fabric API and needs Fabric Loader, and the author notes it runs alongside performance mods, while combinations with other rendering mods have not been tested. The custom license makes it not open source, and files are distributed only through Modrinth.

Key features

  1. Biome-based fog tint

The fog color follows the foliage color of the biome, with a fainter sample taken from up to four chunks away to soften the transition.

  2. Sky and water recoloring

The sky and water read the same biome color, so the whole view shifts together when the player changes biome.

  3. Vanilla sun, moon and clouds

The sun, moon and clouds are not altered and keep their default appearance in every biome.

  4. Settings screen

A settings screen lets the player adjust how the haze and tints appear.

Colorful Water is open source under the MIT License, is client-side only and is published for Fabric 26.1.2 – 26.2, so it covers more recent builds than colormapper, which targets 26.2 alone. Void Sky fix is also client-side only and under the MIT License, but it is not open source and is published for 26.2, the same single version as colormapper. Sky Color Changer is client-side only under All rights reserved and spans 26.1 – 26.3.

Questions

Does colormapper need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and Fabric Loader must be installed as well. The mod is published for Fabric only.

Is colormapper needed on a server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Will colormapper change existing worlds?

No. It adds nothing to the world data, so existing saves load before and after the mod is installed.

Which game versions does colormapper support?

Files exist for 26.2 only, with version 1.0.0 as the latest Fabric file, published on 2026-08-19.
