Everlasting Abilities
by rubensworks
With Everlasting Abilities, a player can carry effects such as Flight, Speed or Haste across deaths, without holding a potion or wearing gear.
What it does
Each new world hands the player an Ability Bottle holding one random ability. Opening the bottle shows a window where the ability can be moved onto the player; the move costs experience, and moving it back returns that experience. Abilities cap at a maximum level. Among the 44 abilities are Flight, Step Assist, Fertility, Bonemealer, Power Stare, Magnetize, Speed and Haste. Abilities that affect entities in an area skip players on the same team, and each ability can be disabled or changed with a datapack.
If a player is killed by another player, one random ability drops in an Ability Totem that the killer can pick up. Totems also appear in loot chests, some mobs drop abilities whose particle colour shows rarity, and three leftover totems can be crafted into a new random one. The mod requires Cyclops Core and works with Forge Config API Port as an optional dependency. It is open source under the MIT License, is a client and server mod, and has files for 1.18.2 – 26.3.
Key features
Persistent abilities
Abilities stay with the player after death, so a player does not have to carry bottles, armour or tools to keep them.
Ability bottles and levels
New worlds start with a bottle holding a random ability, and every ability has a maximum level that limits how far it can be raised.
Ability totems
Defeated players lose one ability to a totem that another player can use, and totems are also found in loot chests.
Totem recycling
Three leftover totems combine in a crafting grid into a new random totem, and the rarity of the inputs affects the output.
