Enchanting System Overhaul
by CmdrJane
Enchanting System Overhaul replaces vanilla enchanting with a discovery-based system, where players learn enchantments from books and apply them at the enchanting table.
What it does
Players must first obtain enchanted books, then use them to learn new enchantments. Once an enchantment is learned, it can be applied to items at the enchanting table, and enchantments can be leveled up over time. Optional leveling requires books with higher enchantment levels, so an item does not need every enchantment applied in one go. The configuration can also remove XP costs from the default recipes and substitute a different XP cost model.
The mod changes how enchanting affects outcomes, giving players more control and reducing the impact of random chance. An optional curse amplification feature allows curses to be applied on purpose, and curses raise the enchantment limit per item. Item combining through the anvil is available again. The mod uses a wide array of items provided by vanilla Minecraft.
Fabric builds depend on Fabric API, and Forge builds require additional dependencies. The mod runs on client and server, so both sides need it. Files cover 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.20.4, released under the MIT License as open source.
