ElytraSwimFix

by nuriui

ElytraSwimFix stops an elytra from being activated while the player is underwater, so the glide cannot start in water.

What it does

Fabric players who fly with an elytra often start the glide by accident while swimming. ElytraSwimFix blocks that activation when the player is underwater, and leaves the elytra working as normal in the air. The fix works on Fabric only and runs with Fabric API installed as a dependency.

The server and every player need the mod installed. The author notes a server-side installation is no longer required in current builds. Files cover 23 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.3, with the latest Fabric file, 26.1.1 for 26.3, published on 2026-03-31. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source; its source code and issue tracker are public. It was first published on 2024-08-06 and last updated on 2026-03-31.

Key features

  1. Underwater activation block

An elytra cannot be activated while the player is underwater, which prevents the glide from starting in water.

  2. Glide in the air unchanged

Outside water the elytra behaves as it does in vanilla, so flight and landing are not affected.

  3. Firework boost

A firework still starts a boost from the air, as the author notes; holding a firework is the trigger.

Use cases

Swimming between islands

Players who swim across water to reach a flight path no longer glide into the sea by accident.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who use elytra on Fabric and want the flight controls kept separate from swimming.
