Dynamic Brightness

by Socolio

Dynamic Brightness changes the screen brightness automatically as the surroundings get darker or lighter, so the player does not have to adjust it by hand.

What it does

The mod adds eye adaption, a feature that lifts or lowers the displayed brightness to match the light around the player. Three settings control it: Eye Adaption turns the feature on or off, Eye Adaption Range sets how far the brightness may shift with the environment, and Eye Adaptation Speed sets how quickly the brightness catches up after a change in light.

Dynamic Light Impact sets how strongly dynamic light mods affect the adjusted brightness. The mod gives support for Lamb Dynamic Lights and for the wider dynamic light mod support, and it reads its options through Mod Menu with a Cloth Config screen. Dynamic Brightness runs on Fabric and NeoForge and needs only the client, with no server part.

Key features

  1. Automatic eye adaption

Brightness rises in dark places and falls in bright ones, following the light around the player.

  2. Adjustable range and speed

The range of the brightness shift and the speed of the change can each be set in the options.

  3. Light influence setting

A separate option controls how much dynamic light mods change the adjusted brightness.

  4. Config screen

Options open from Mod Menu and are edited in a Cloth Config screen.

Use cases

Caves and night travel

A player moving between dark caves and lit surface areas does not need to keep changing the brightness setting.

Who it’s for: Players who use a dynamic light mod and want the screen to follow the light level, on a Fabric or NeoForge client.

Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge. Fabric needs the Fabric API, and the mod is client-side only, so the server does not need it.

Does Dynamic Brightness have to be installed on a server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Which game versions have files?

Files exist for 1.20 – 1.21.8. The latest Fabric file is 1.3.0 for 1.21.8, and the latest NeoForge file is 1.3.1 for 1.21.8.

Does Dynamic Brightness work with dynamic light mods?

It has support for Lamb Dynamic Lights and more dynamic light mods, and the Dynamic Light Impact option sets how strongly they affect the brightness.

In the catalog
