dRandomSpawn
by drag0n1zed
dRandomSpawn gives each new player a random safe spawn point instead of stacking everyone at the world spawn.
What it does
When a player joins a world for the first time, dRandomSpawn picks a location at random and places the player there. Lava is excluded from the candidate spots, and biomes and blocks listed in the config can be blocked from being chosen. The result is that new players start apart from one another rather than piling up at the world spawn.
Respawn handling has its own rules. A player without a bed reuses the spawn roll saved for them, and can roll a fresh location one time. Beds and respawn anchors keep their normal spawn behavior, so a player who has set one is returned to it. The combinations of these respawn options are described in the config.
Included commands let operators view a player's saved spawn and reroll it. Notable settings are in dRandomSpawn.toml, which is generated in the config folder. The mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and public source code and an issue tracker are linked from the project. It runs on Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1, with the 1.4.0+1.20.1 file dated 2026-03-25.
Key features
Unique random spawns
Each new player receives a random location, so starts are spread across the world.
Lava and hazard exclusion
Lava and configured dangerous blocks are kept out of the candidate spots for new spawns.
Biome blocking
Unwanted biomes can be listed in the config so that random spawns never land in them.
Respawn behavior
Players without a bed reuse their saved spawn roll, with one fresh roll allowed, while beds and respawn anchors are honored.
Reroll commands
Included commands let operators view saved spawns and reroll them for a player.

Use cases
Multiplayer servers
Server owners can keep new arrivals from clustering around the world spawn.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want new players spread out, and players who prefer a random start in a shared world.
How it compares
Where'd I Wake Up is a Forge mod for 1.20 – 1.20.1 that runs on client and server and is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Random Respawns Ported covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 on Forge, is server-side only, and is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0, so it is not open source either. Back Up Beds is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and supports both Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1, which dRandomSpawn also covers.
