Don't Spawn On Me

by Funk Planet

Don't Spawn On Me keeps players from being placed on blocks listed in a configurable block tag, which by default covers tree canopies and mushroom caps.

What it does

When a player is placed at a random spawn point, the mod rejects any spot that stands on a block in the dontspawnonme:unspawnable tag. Only the dimension spawn point is affected by this check; a player's own bed or respawn anchor always returns them to the exact coordinate they set, so those spawns stay as they were.

The default tag contains leaves, leaves+ blocks and red and brown mushroom blocks. These are the blocks most likely to end up under a random spawn, since tree canopies tend to be the highest blocks with sky access around them. A data pack can replace the tag or add more blocks to it, so server owners can tune the list without editing the mod.

Don't Spawn On Me is installed on the server only, and players join without it. It is open source under the MIT License and publishes files for Fabric and Forge, both for 1.20.1, with 1.0.0 as the latest file on each loader, released 2026-03-12. Its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Blocks random spawns avoid

Random spawn points skip any standing position on a block from the unspawnable tag.

  2. Tag-based block list

The list is a block tag, so the blocks it contains can be changed through a data pack.

  3. Default tree canopy coverage

Leaves, leaves+ and red and brown mushroom blocks are in the default tag, targeting common high spawn spots.

  4. Exact personal spawns

Bed and anchor respawns keep their saved coordinates, and only dimension spawn points use the filter.

What the author says

This mod allows you to prevent players from randomly spawning on blocks specified by a tag. Note that this only affects random spawns at the dimension spawnpoint - player specific spawnpoints do not have a random element and will always be at their exact coordinate (if valid).
