DayX

by Diexv

DayX is a Forge survival challenge mod for 1.20.1 in which a danger level rises with real gameplay time and sets how strong monsters become.

ForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1

What it does

Each save file runs its own copy of the challenge. Activation is manual, so a world can stay on a normal course until its owner turns the challenge on, and pausing with the matching command stops the timer without resetting it. A HUD shows the current danger level and a countdown to the next increase, and the features switch on at once when the challenge starts. Many properties can be tuned in the configuration, including how long each danger level lasts, which is 20 minutes by default.

The danger level depends on how long the game has been played, and the values for monsters follow from that level. Monster health, damage, speed and armor scale linearly as the level rises, and the spawn rate of monsters is raised five times. Monsters appear regardless of the day and night cycle, and the mod adds special creeper behavior, including a share of charged creepers that spawn naturally. Dying lowers the danger level as a penalty.

The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source. It is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge 1.20.1, with 1.4.0 as the latest file, and it can use the optional Timeless and Classics Zero mod, TaCZ, for firearms.

Key features

  1. Danger level system

The danger level rises as real gameplay time passes, and each step makes monsters stronger.

  2. Monster scaling

Monster health, damage, speed and armor scale linearly with the danger level, with configurable values.

  3. All-weather spawning

Monsters spawn regardless of the day and night cycle, with the spawn rate raised five times.

  4. Charged creepers and undead

A share of creepers spawn charged, and zombies and skeletons do not burn in daylight.

  5. Smart tracking

Monsters track players over a 128-block range and can route around obstacles at higher danger levels.

Questions

Does DayX need Timeless and Classics Zero?

No. TaCZ is an optional dependency. DayX runs without it, and it is only needed if the firearm features are wanted.

Does DayX have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Which Minecraft version does DayX support?

DayX is published for Forge 1.20.1 only, and the latest file is 1.4.0 for that version.

How is the challenge started and paused?

The challenge is started manually for each save file, and it can be paused at any time without losing the timer.
