ChestLoot

by Diexv

ChestLoot changes the loot tables that chests draw from, so the items inside vanilla and modded chests can be shaped by a configuration file.

FabricClient and serverMIT License1.20.1

What it does

The mod modifies loot tables for chests, and it can also generate registered items inside the containers it touches. Chance weights and quantities are set through its configuration file, so a server owner decides which items show up and how often. Only chest loot is touched; other parts of the game keep their default tables.

Files are published for Fabric only, for the single game version 1.20.1, as a 1.0 build dated 2025-12-31 on the alpha channel. Because the mod works on the client and on the server, both sides need it. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source in the sense of a public repository. The author recommends installing Cloth Config alongside it for the configuration screen to work.

Key features

  1. Chest loot tables

Loot tables used by chests can be altered, adding or changing the items a chest may contain.

  2. Registered item generation

Items from the game registry can be placed inside chests as the mod generates their contents.

  3. Weight and quantity settings

Each entry's chance weight and stack quantity are adjusted in the configuration file.

How it compares

Full comparison

Inventory Pause is client and server and is open source under the MIT License, for Fabric on 1.20.1, but it changes inventory screens rather than chest contents. Zakuro is open source under the MIT License for Fabric on 1.20.1 and is server required with the client optional, so players may skip it. Loot Patcher is server-side only on Fabric for 1.20.1, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 or later and open source, so clients need nothing. Faithful Mace - Loot Table Add-On is also server-side only on Fabric for 1.20.1 under the MIT License, and it adds loot entries rather than configurable weights.
