Date Time Display

by okdashi

Date Time Display puts the in-game date, time and weekday on a top-of-screen overlay, with its calendar tracked to match the real world.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCustom license1.21.5 – 26.1

What it does

The overlay shows the current in-game time, weekday and date. The day tracker mirrors the real calendar: an in-game April 6 2025 lands on the weekday April 6 2025 has on Earth, and leap years follow the standard 4-100-400 rule. Day-of-year is worked out with modulo and floor division on the game ticks, and the weekday uses Zeller's Congruence. Recalculation happens from the tick time, so setting the time with a command does not throw the date off.

Movable holidays, including Easter, Lunar New Year and Thanksgiving, are worked out with the same formulas that astronomy software relies on. Special events fire at set moments: a firework show in chat at midnight on New Year's Eve outdoors, fireflies appearing on Lunar New Year, hearts on Valentine's Day and green particles on St Patrick's Day. Addon packs can attach their own actions to holidays through ready-made hooks. Installation needs Fabric API on Fabric. The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 26.1 and earlier builds, and a data pack version exists for servers that want the same calendar.

Key features

  1. Top-screen date and time

The in-game date, time and weekday appear in an overlay at the top of the screen.

  2. Real calendar tracking

Days, months, years, leap years and weekdays follow the real-world calendar.

  3. Holiday calculation

Movable holidays are computed for each year, so their dates shift correctly from one year to the next.

  4. Holiday event hooks

Addon packs can trigger their own events on holidays through built-in hooks.

How it compares

Full comparison

Clock Mod is a Fabric-only, client-side mod for 26.1.2 under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is open source, so only the client needs it. Real Events runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.21 – 1.21.11, needs both sides, and uses a custom license that is not open source. Timekeeper (Calendar) covers Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 with both sides required under a Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, not open source.

Questions

Does Date Time Display need Fabric API?

Yes, on Fabric the mod requires Fabric API. On Forge, NeoForge and Quilt it does not list that dependency.

Does the server need the mod installed?

Yes, the server is required. Players can join without installing it, because the client side is optional.

Will changing the time with a command break the date?

No. The date is recalculated from the tick time, so setting the time does not throw the calendar off.

Which game versions have files?

Files exist for 1.21.5, 1.21.9, 1.21.11 and 26.1, and the latest file is 3.4+mod for 26.1, published 2026-03-25.

What the author says

This add-on displays in-game time, weather conditions, weekdays, and dates using a day tracker that accurately mirrors real-world dates. Using division and modulo operations, the datapack converts game ticks into a 12-hour clock while computing the day-of-year by summing monthly offsets and adjusting for leap years…
