Damage Spawns Mobs
Damage Spawns Mobs is a Forge minigame that spawns random mobs around any player who takes damage, so a single hit can bring a crowd of creatures.
What it does
Each time a player takes damage that is not fatal, the mod spawns random mobs around them. The pool is not limited to hostile creatures: the author notes that withers, wardens, Ender Dragons and even squids can appear, and mobs from other installed mods are included as well. Players who want to avoid the chaos will try to avoid taking damage.
The mod is configurable through several config options and three entity-type tags. Server owners can add mobs to the spawn pool through included_mobs.json, or remove mobs with excluded_mobs.json. The file under data/damagespawnsmobs/tags/entity_types/ lists the mobs that spawn, and a tag can replace that list entirely. The author describes the experience as slightly easier in some respects and more chaotic in others.
Damage Spawns Mobs runs on the server alone, so players join without installing it. It targets Forge and is published for 1.19.2 – 1.20.6, with the latest file for 1.20.6 listed under the 1.20.1-1.0.0 build. The code is not open source; the mod is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Random mob spawns on damage
Non-fatal damage to a player causes random mobs to spawn around that player, which makes every fight unpredictable.
Mixed spawn pool
Spawns can include bosses, passive mobs and mobs from other installed mods, so the outcome changes from one hit to the next.
Entity-type tags
Included and excluded mob lists are set through JSON tags, and a replacement tag can override the default list completely.
Configurable options
Several config options adjust how the spawn behavior works, letting a server owner tune the balance.
