Corpse: Refined

by nothurn

When a player dies, Corpse: Refined leaves a corpse at the death location that holds the player's items and can be looted later.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2 – 1.21.1

What it does

The corpse appears where the player died, wearing a copy of the owner's skin and holding the inventory. General items, armor and an offhand item are stored up to a capacity limit. Armor and offhand pieces return to their slots on their own, filling only the empty ones, so gear the player is already wearing is not replaced. Corpses do not disappear once emptied, and the death site stays marked instead of vanishing.

Over time a shroud slowly forms over the body and then gradually wears away to reveal the skeleton underneath. The mod exposes timers for how long the shroud takes to form and to wear away, and a corpse left too long decays down to bone. Pressing C opens a view of past deaths and what caused them. Access is owner-only. Recovering gear requires finding the way back through menus.

The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Its latest files are 2.0.3 for 1.20.1 on Forge and 2.0.3 for 1.21.1 on NeoForge, both dated 2026-09-07. The server and every player need the mod installed. The code is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Armor and offhand pieces return to their slots on their own, filling only the slots that are empty.

  3. Shroud and decay

Settings control how long the shroud takes to form and to wear away, and whether old corpses are forcibly despawned.
