Corpse Complex
Corpse Complex lets a server owner decide what a player loses on death, from items and experience to hunger and the potion effects applied on respawn.
What it does
The mod changes the death system of Minecraft. Options can be set through configuration files in the world's serverconfig folder, which lets server owners tune the rules without code.
The mod also covers gear that should survive a death. It can keep selected items on respawn and optionally adds a Soulbinding enchantment for that purpose, and it includes a customizable respawn effect called Memento Mori. Corpse Complex is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and is published for Forge only, with builds for 1.10.2 – 1.16.5 and 1.16.5-4.0.2.8 as the latest file. Installation covers the server and each player's game.
Key features
Selective keep inventory
Players can keep chosen items through death instead of keeping or losing the whole inventory.
Soulbinding enchantment
An optional enchantment marks gear to be kept when its owner dies, so special equipment is not lost.
Experience loss control
The amount of experience lost on death can be set, and experience orb generation can be controlled as well.
Respawn potion effects
Effects are applied to players after respawn, including a customizable effect named Memento Mori.
Hunger on death
Hunger values can be configured for death and respawn, so the food cost of dying can be adjusted.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners who want a different death penalty than vanilla, and modpack authors who need death rules that match the rest of their pack.
How it compares
Keep Xp is server-side only, under the MIT License, and is published for 1.20.1, so players need nothing installed. Configurable Death is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and runs on client and server for 1.19.2 – 1.20.6. HungerKeep is only for 1.16.5 and can be installed on the client or the server, and its license is All rights reserved, so its source is not open. Corpse Complex covers a broader set of death options within the 1.10.2 – 1.16.5 range.
