Better Compatibility Checker
by Gaz492
Better Compatibility Checker changes how a server's compatibility check is decided, so a modpack's version pair decides whether a join is allowed.
What it does
The default Forge server compatibility check can report a match as incompatible, which confuses players who add a modpack server. This mod replaces that behavior for modpacks by comparing a modpack project ID and a modpack version ID that the modpack author writes into a config file. When both sides carry the same pair, the check shows a tick; when they differ, it shows a cross.
Configuration takes one file: bcc-common.toml in the config folder on Forge and NeoForge, or bcc.json on Fabric. The modpack name and version are set there and saved. The version must be updated whenever the modpack changes. If the required data is missing, the mod falls back to the default Forge implementation, so it does not block a join on its own.
The mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 29 release versions, 1.16.5 – 26.3. Its only required dependency is Fabric API on Fabric. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. The code is not open source; it is covered by All rights reserved, and the source and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Project and version matching
Compares the modpack project ID and version ID from the config against the ones the other side reports.
Tick and cross indicator
Shows a tick when the pair matches and a cross when it does not, so the result is visible at a glance.
Default fallback
If the modpack data is not set, the default Forge implementation of the check is used instead.
Modpack name entry
The modpack name is typed into the config file and saved, with no further setup needed.

Use cases
Modpack servers
Server owners running a modpack can make the join check report matching versions as compatible.
Modpack distribution
Modpack authors ship the config with their pack so that players joining the server see the correct result.
Who it’s for: Modpack authors who publish a server with a specific pack, and server owners who want the join check to match the pack version rather than the loader default.
How it compares
Loaded Mods Checker is client-side only, open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and published for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21 – 26.1.2, so it runs on players' clients alone. Modpack Checker is client and server, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and Fabric only for 1.20 – 1.21.7. Slots Checker is server-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and Fabric only for 1.18 – 26.3, so players need nothing installed.

What the author says
The forge server compatibility checker is not always accurate and can cause some issues with end-users of a modpack when they add a server, and it shows up as not compatible. This mod fixes that issue when used by modpacks, as it will compare the modpack project ID and the modpack version ID set in a config file by…
