Command Waypoints

by Minenash

Command Waypoints lets server operators list, add and modify Locator Bar waypoints through commands, without needing entities to hold them.

What it does

Mojang added waypoints to the Locator Bar in snapshot 25w15a, but by default only entities such as players display them. Command Waypoints extends the waypoint command so static waypoints can be created, changed and removed at fixed positions in the world, which lets a server place points that do not follow any player or mob.

Each waypoint can be given a color, a style and a range. Those options can be written in any order when issuing the command. The mod runs on the server only, so players join with a vanilla client and see the waypoints the server defines. Fabric API is required, and the code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Files are published for Fabric alone, covering 1.21.6 – 1.21.10 across five release versions, with 1.0+1.21.6 for 1.21.10 as the latest file. Snapshot builds are also published.

Key features

  1. List waypoints

A command shows the waypoints that currently exist, so operators can check what is set before changing anything.

  2. Add waypoints

A command creates a static waypoint at a chosen position, without attaching it to an entity.

  3. Modify waypoints

An existing waypoint can be edited in place, for example to change its color, style or range.

  4. Remove waypoints

Static waypoints can be deleted with the same command family, so outdated markers do not stay on the Locator Bar.

What the author says

In 25w15a, Mojang released the Locator Bar, which can show waypoints. Currently, only entities can be waypoints with players showing by default. This mod extends the /waypoint command to allow adding/modifying/removing of "static" waypoints.
