Gray Locator Bar

by Skeppit

Gray Locator Bar changes the color of Minecraft's locator bar to a single neutral gray, so players cannot tell other players apart by their locator colors.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.11

What it does

Minecraft's locator bar assigns each player a distinct color, which lets anyone on a server recognize specific players at a glance. Gray Locator Bar replaces those colors with one gray, while the bar itself keeps showing player positions. Locator indicators still work, only the color-based identification is removed.

The mod was built for PvP servers and other multiplayer settings where reducing targeting is wanted without turning off the locator bar entirely. It is a Fabric mod for 1.21.11, and the server requires it while clients may leave it out. Its only configuration is the gray color, so setup is minimal. The license is the MIT License, and the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Single neutral gray

Every player entry on the locator bar uses one gray tone instead of the usual per-player colors.

  2. Locator bar stays functional

Players still see the bar and the positions of others, so the feature is not removed.

  3. Color-based identification prevented

Because colors no longer differ between players, the bar cannot be used to pick out a specific player by color.

  4. Lightweight setup

The mod needs little configuration and adds only the color change to the existing locator bar.

Use cases

PvP servers

Server owners who want to reduce targeting on a competitive server can install the mod so the bar gives no color-based clues.

Multiplayer experiences

Survival and other shared worlds can run the mod when the locator bar should remain but without per-player colors.

Who it’s for: Server owners running PvP servers or other multiplayer worlds that want to limit targeting by locator color. Players on those servers do not need the mod installed.

Team Only Locator Bar is a server-side Fabric mod under the MIT License for 1.21.11 – 26.1 that limits the bar to team members, so it works differently from a single gray color.
