[CIT] CustomItemTextures
by UltimatChamp
Custom item textures for players who want CIT-style texture rules on Fabric without OptiFine: CustomItemTextures, a client-side mod for 1.20.4.
What it does
CustomItemTextures brings MCPatcher's CIT texture system to Fabric without requiring OptiFine. It is built on CIT Resewn, a fork of the original CIT project, and the mod bundles that fork along with CIT Resewn JSONLagPatch. The main CIT mod serves as the API that adds texture types and conditions in the CIT format, and a set of defaults uses that API to provide the standard types and conditions. Fabric API is required, and the mod is open source under the MIT License.
The code, issue tracker and wiki are public, and the docs site is kept in a docs branch that accepts pull requests. Bug fixes and feature implementations are welcome and usually accepted once verified. Translations are not needed for a pull request. The project is published for 1.20.4 only, and only the client needs it, so servers run without it.
Key features
CIT texture rules
Item textures can be chosen by conditions in the CIT format, without installing OptiFine.
Default types and conditions
A defaults module supplies the standard texture types and conditions that ship with the CIT format.
Extension API
The CIT API lets other mods add new texture types and conditions for their own items.
Bundled CIT Resewn fork
The mod includes the CIT Resewn fork and its JSON lag patch, so no separate install of that fork is needed.

How it compares
Pickle's client-side utils is a Fabric mod for 1.20.4 with the same client-side only environment and the MIT License, so it covers a similar client role. MCPPPP is a Fabric client-side mod for 1.17 – 1.19.3 under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, so it targets older game versions. CITResewnBackwardsCompat is a client-side Fabric mod under the MIT License for 1.21 – 1.21.1, covering newer versions than this mod.

What the author says
MCPatcher's CIT w/o OptiFine. A reliable fork of CITResewn! The main CIT mod serves as an API to add types and conditions while CIT: Defaults uses that API to provide the default types and conditions that naturally come with the CIT format.
