Chronoception

by chromonym

Chronoception lets each player see a separate world time from the server, with blocks, items, potions and status effects that offset or reverse the time a player perceives.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverBSD 3-Clause LicenseOpen source1.21 – 1.21.1

What it does

A player's client can be desynced from the server's world time. Gems match the times of day, including day, night, dawn and dusk, and dusts match the moon phases from new to full. A stopwatch lets a player set their personal time by hand instead of relying on potions, while a clock shows the server's current time rather than the player's own. Many potions and status effects can shift the perceived time, forward or backward and at a different speed.

Blocks only let through the perceived time that matches them, and blocks reset time on the server side as the player passes through. Chronoception was created for ModFest 1.21. Architectury API is required on every loader, and EMI is optional for recipe viewing. The mod runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under the BSD 3-Clause License as open source, with files for 1.21 and 1.21.1 across Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt.

Key features

  1. Perceived time offset

Potions and status effects can move a player's perceived time forward, back or at a changed speed.

  2. Time gems

Gems correspond to the times of day, day, night, dawn and dusk, and change what the player perceives.

  3. Moon dusts

Dusts correspond to the moon phases, from new to full, with gibbous, quarter and crescent between.

  4. Personal stopwatch

A stopwatch sets the player's own time by hand, so potions are not the only way to shift it.

  5. Server time clock

A clock displays the server's current time instead of the player's own, for comparison.

Use cases

Time-based puzzles

Blocks that pass only one perceived time suit puzzles where players must move through the world at the right moment.

Who it’s for: Players who want time-based items and blocks on Fabric, NeoForge or Quilt, and server owners who want all players on one world to share the server's clock while each sees a personal time.

Questions

Does Chronoception need Architectury API?

Yes. Architectury API is a required dependency on every loader, so it must be installed next to Chronoception.

Does the server need Chronoception?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Which game versions have files for Chronoception?

Files exist for 1.21 and 1.21.1, and the latest file for each loader is version 1.2.2 for 1.21.1, published 2024-11-05.

Is EMI needed to use Chronoception?

No. EMI is an optional dependency, so Chronoception works without it.

What the author says

A mod created for ModFest 1.21 that desyncs a given player's client-side world time from the server's, with new blocks and items that behave according to the player's separate percieved time. (Also I only found out about the event like two weeks after it started! So this mod is a lot more rushed than I would…
