Player Containers

by chromonym

Player Containers lets players store other players inside container items, cages and dispensers, and it is a work-in-progress Fabric mod for 1.21.1.

FabricClient and serverBSD 3-Clause LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

A basic player container holds a captured player, and three further variants hold three, five or unlimited players. Two of the variants can be obtained in survival, while one is creative-only. A contained player can spectate whoever is holding the container, or move the camera within a limited range around it.

A cage block works as the container item in block form: placing it releases the player inside as a block, and a dispenser can capture or release players in containers. Player essences drop on death, and another variant looks like a player model. The latest build was shown at BlanketCon 25, and the author notes that some aspects are still buggy, with moving contained players between dimensions disabled.

Installation needs Area Lib, which is required and not optional for now. The server and every player need the mod installed. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License, which makes the mod open source. Files target 1.21.1 only and the latest Fabric file is 0.2.7, an alpha released on 2025-07-06.

Key features

  1. Basic player container

The titular container stores a single other player, and the contained player can watch whoever carries it.

  2. Capacity variants

Three extra variants hold three, five or unlimited players, with two obtainable in survival and one creative-only.

  3. Cage block

A cage block acts as the container in block form, and placing it releases the captured player as a block.

  4. Dispenser capture

Dispensers can capture players into containers and release them again.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want item-based player capture for play on a Fabric 1.21.1 world or server. The mod is alpha and still buggy, so it suits testing rather than stable survival worlds.
