Bluemap Viewer

by Maximilian1121

Bluemap Viewer lets a player open a server's web map inside the game window, without leaving Minecraft, and is bound to the M key by default.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient required, server optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The viewer embeds the map page in an in-game window. Pressing M opens it, and the key can be reassigned in the controls settings. The address of the server's map can be changed from within the viewer, and the mod remembers the URLs of servers the player has used before, so the same map does not need to be typed again.

The map is rendered through MCEF, the Minecraft Chromium Embedded Framework, which caps browser frame rate at 30 fps. The author notes that the mod can move to a 60 fps cap, and that free-flight navigation works correctly. Some lag inside the map is noted, and the author has said that fixing it is lower priority and that development continues.

Installation needs Architectury API and MCEF on every loader, and Fabric API on Fabric. MidnightLib is bundled inside the mod, and Mod Menu is optional. Each player installs it; a server may add it but does not have to. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. Files cover 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6 and 1.21.1 for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge.

Key features

  1. In-game server map

Players view a server's web map in a window without quitting to a browser.

  2. Keyboard shortcut

The map window opens with the M key, and the binding can be changed in the controls menu.

  3. Free-flight navigation

Free-flight movement in the embedded map works as intended, according to the author notes.

Questions

Does Bluemap Viewer need a server-side install?

No. Only the player needs the mod, and a server can add it, but it is not required to join.

Which dependencies must be installed with Bluemap Viewer?

Architectury API and MCEF are required on all loaders. Fabric API is also required on Fabric. Mod Menu is optional.

Why does the map feel slow at times?

The embedded browser is capped at 30 fps by MCEF, and the author notes some lag inside the map. A move to a 60 fps cap is described as in progress.
