Eva's Block Finder

by Evarika

Eva's Block Finder lets a player search for chosen block types within a configurable area, with a keybind to start each search.

FabricClient-side onlyCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.21.2 – 26.1.2

What it does

A search covers blocks inside a region set by two configurable numbers, one for horizontal range and one for vertical range, so the scan cannot grow to an unmanageable size. Matching blocks in the loaded area are highlighted until they come into view, which helps locate things like ores or storage in a large base.

Searches can run for one block type or several, and the search can be bound to a keybind for quick use. The mod works with the hand a player is holding: a block held in the main hand is prioritized, and a block held in either hand is searched for. The config menu lists the saved search options. Eva's Block Finder is client-side only and is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, so it is open source. It requires Fabric API and works with Cloth Config API and Mod Menu when those are present.

Key features

  1. Keybind-driven searches

A keybind starts a block search, and the search options are kept in a configurable list.

  2. Configurable search area

Horizontal and vertical range limits set the size of each search, keeping scans from covering an unreasonable volume.

  3. In-view highlighting

Matching blocks inside the loaded area are highlighted until they become visible to the player.

  4. Main-hand priority

When a block is held in the main hand, it takes priority, and blocks held in either hand can be searched.

Use cases

Finding resources in a large base

A player with many storage rooms can search for a specific block type within a set radius instead of checking each chest.

Locating ores while digging

A player digging a tunnel can search a limited volume for a target ore before committing to a route.

Who it’s for: Players who build large bases or dig tunnels, and who want a fixed search area rather than an unbounded scan.

Questions

Yes. Fabric API is required, and the mod is published for the Fabric loader only.

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

What the author says

Allows the player to search for specific blocks within a configurable space. Is not continuous, as that would put a lot of strain on the system. The volume it searches is based on two configurable numbers. The actual range is based on the horizontal range, while the vertical range is a limiter to prevent it from…
